You can't hike Alaskan Mountains in mid-summer without being amazed by the vastness of their valleys and snow-laced peaks. While sketching a Rock Ptarmigan I was distracted by the song of a pipit floating through the valley mists leading me upward to the alpine tundra. Climbing over a ridge I was hoping to see a pipit , but, instead found an enchanting world of lichens and arctic flowers ... a place where a lone jaeger nests in peacefulness. The jaeger sat quietly on it's nest while I sketched out this idea and took notes on the surrounding flora and landscape. I picture was then painted in my studio and purchased by the Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, WI
