Cloud's Rest From North Dome

From a hike on the North Rim of Yosemite Valley, a sweet trail takes one through vistas, Red Fir forests, and glaciated granite to North Dome. This view looks east toward Cloud's Rest, aptly named. Not a place to be in a thunderstorm, but always one of great beauty. This is not the only stupendous view. There are many in every direction, including Yosemite Valley far below. I have drawn and painted North Dome, Cloud's Rest and neighbors countless times since childhood. This was a particularly happy painting because the major elements of color came together with the other two elements of resident ravens flying over the canyon, and the Jeffrey Pine rooted tenaciously in cracks in the granite.
