Pohono Storm

Pohono Storm, Landscape
Pohono Storm
This is a plein air pastel that started on a clear afternoon in Yosemite Valley and by the time I was finished I had been pelted with rain, hail, a little summer snow, and back to rain again. It was exhilarating but chilly. I used both soft pastels in stick form, as well as brush and turps. I love being out there in the elements painting in the moment. I knew that I could have hot chocolate, hot bath, and hot fire fairly quickly after packing up.
Pohono is a Native American name for the Falls known now as Bridal Veil.
